Overview
During the fall semester of 2021, my layout class was assigned a project to create a booklet based on an annual report. The goal of this project was to create a booklet with important information we found important from the report while presenting it as a dynamic layout. Along with this part, we were also tasked with creating an interactive webpage that showed our designs that could be accessed on the web.
This project had a few restrictions:
1. We couldn’t reuse a brand we already worked with
2. No food or entertainment (i.e McDonald’s or Spotify)
3. We were required to have an interactive element in our book.
Below were some of the preliminary sketches for how the booklet could look.
Some challenges in the creation of this booklet was displaying the information while breaking the traditional forms of layout. This pushed me to play with larger typography, using elements that correlate to the theme, and making certain information stand out on a page while integrating in the layout.
Even when it came to visual aesthetics, finding the right color schemes and using illustrations took some work and revisions. Throughout this process, I honed in on my illustration skills and combined them with design. The combination of both led this to be one of my favorite projects to date. Below are some of the pages from the full layout.
While I had to go through several drafts and iterations, I ended up with a layout that I was proud of. I found a way to create a layout that was visually dynamic and showcased a good use of design and art.
