For one of my first projects, I collaborated with my art director and lead visual designer to create a new line of items for our storefront. During my internship, we had some items curated by an external agency and it was time for a refresh and revamp. In creating new items, we had to curate items targeted into these different groups:

  • General

  • Product Tools

  • Analytics for All

Below are some of the concepts I drafted for our store. This was an opportunity to explore styles ranging from our colors, our patterns, and even our elements like our brush strokes. Not all these concepts moved forward, but they were fun to create!

As I went about creating concepts, I made sure that they were in line with our branding. While we couldn’t produce every item, it was fun exploring designs on various items like sweatshirts, bucket hats, and even water bottles. Throughout the process, we condensed our concepts and agreed on what would move forward for production.

Concepts Moving Forward

As I went about creating concepts, I made sure that they were in line with our branding. While we couldn’t produce every item, it was fun exploring designs on various items like sweatshirts, bucket hats, and even water bottles. Throughout the process, we condensed our concepts and agreed on what would move forward for production.

Below are one of the designs that moved forward for production.

Alteryx Step & Repeat

One of the designs that moved forward was this pattern with “Alteryx” repeated on a shirt. We used our custom brushes to create a texturized feel to the words. This allowed us to play with several color iterations before using our shades of blue for the pattern. We even explored a more “earth-tone” color palette that allowed for variety in our storefront.

We also extended the designs to our pet merchandise. The feedback we received from the items was overwhelmingly positive! It was surreal seeing the designs being repped - even on pets!

My Picks

Not every design moved forward, but there were a few that I was proud of. These designs included the brush strokes in our colors and even explored a multi-color option. We had explored having these designs on a reversible bomber jacket, beanies, and lanyards.

My favorites were these designs on bucket hats and string bags. While these products were intended for our pet merchandise store, they would have made a neat addition to our lineup. This was also a fun opportunity to include the logo in a custom script I created.

Overall, this project gave me some great hands-on learning for graphics for print outside of booklets I did in school. I learned about the best methods for prepping items for print, limitations for colors and elements, and best practices for item placement. It was also an opportunity for me to explore different ideas on how we wanted to showcase what makes our brand special!
